Welcome to the WENG Lab in the Center for Neuroregeneration in the Department of Neurosurgery at Houston Methodist. Our lab explores the epigenetic and epitranscriptomic mechanisms instructing cell state alterations under physiologic and disease conditions.

The Weng Lab is interested in how epigenetics and RNA modifications shape the cell behavior and function, as well as how dysfunction of these mechanisms in response to the genetic and environmental risk factors could be linked to brain disorders. Our main overarching goals are 1) To decipher the role of m6A RNA methylation in establishing, maintaining, and spreading of histone modification domains; 2) To elucidate how risk factors differentially and specifically alter the epigenome/ epitranscriptome/ transcriptional control in neuronal and glial subtypes; 3) To understand the complex reciprocal signaling between neurons and microglia in health and Alzheimer’s disease.
